Social Justice Summer Program:

Fellowship, Study and Action

Thursdays June 30, July 21, and August 25

Potluck Supper on the Porch of Hastings House 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Program 6:45 – 8 p.m. On the porch or socially-distanced inside. Masked and vaccinated inside Hastings House, please

Walpole Unitarian’s Social Action committee will host three summer evening potlucks for members and friends, followed by programs centered on the 2018-2019 Unitarian Universalist Association Common Read, “Justice on Earth: People of Faith Working at the Intersections of Race, Class, and Environment,” Manish Mishra-Marzetti and Jennifer Nordstrom, Editors.

With Rev. Elaine Bomford facilitating, we approach this collection of twelve essays in three sections. Following each of the essays, there are suggestions for “Taking it Further.”  These are ways we can learn more, deepen awareness, and actively engage.

Participants are requested to read the text, around 55 pages per evening, and follow through with one or more of these suggestions per reading section — three total over the summer.

We’ll devote time in the program to sharing our “Taking it Further” experiences.

We’ll also ask “What do the essays tell us about contemporary Unitarian Universalism as it is promoted by the UUA?”  “Is this effective analysis?”  “Is it representative?”  “How is it helpful?”

Come to one, or come to all. Read the book, “Take it Further,” and participate in as many meetings as convenient.
